What will you dress your small child as this Halloween? If your little kid is over three years old, then you may be racking your brain to come up with another clever Halloween costume idea. Rather than struggling with sewing an elaborate costume to match the newest preschool fad, how about creating a charming yet simple and traditional costume? Easy Child’s Halloween Cat Costume Idea

You will need the following to make this kids cat costume:

• Piece of Cardboard for cat ears
• Felt that matches your leggings and turtleneck
• Plastic headband
• Hot glue gun and glue sticks
• Long piece of fabric or felt to make a tail
• Large safety pins
• Dark turtleneck
• Dark leggings
• Large sweatshirt (optional)
• Fabric paint or fabric pens (optional)

Draw triangle shapes about 3 inches tall and 2 inches wide on the cardboard. Cut out the ears. Cover with felt using hot glue. If you use dark brown or black as your turtleneck and legging color then you can use a basic tortoiseshell or black headband. If not, then cover the headband with the same color felt as your cat ears. Glue the ears to the headband. You can easily make a cat tail by using a long piece of fabric rolled into a long tube and filled with stuffing and then hot glued at the seam. You can pin the tail on the legging seat or attach with Velcro for safety.

You can either make your cat a ‘skinny’ kitty with just the turtleneck and leggings, or you can add a sweatshirt in an accent color to give some added depth and warmth to the costume and your child while outside. A cute idea if using a sweatshirt is to take some fabric paints or paint pens and write cute little sayings on the shirt in whimsical lettering. Write things like ‘meeoow’ or ‘Happy Meow-o-leen’ etc. You can also draw little mouse shapes and cat paw prints. Easy Halloween Face Paint Recipe

• 1/2 tsp cold cream
• 1/2 cup
• 1/2 tsp water
• Different colors of food coloring

Mix cornstarch, cold cream, water, and enough drops of food coloring to make the color vivid in a cup. If you’re making several different colors then have more cups available. Stir well and add more cornstarch if too runny.

Although these black and orange caps may be the most difficult to apply to your cat’s claws, they are the most functional and least likely to distress your cat after you apply them. These caps prevent damage from scratching, while providing some Halloween highlights. 2. Black Tie Affair Cat Collar and the Fresh as a Daisy Cat Collar. Decorative cat collars are perfect for Halloween, in that they are difficult for the cat to take off, and they don’t interfere with the cat’s natural movement. They also are incredibly cute. The Fresh as a Daisy Cat Collar is a collar that looks very similar to a skirt with a small daisy attached. This pink and purple ensemble is perfect for any little cat princess, or male cats in Halloween drag. The Black Tie Affair Cat Collar is both black bow tie and white shirt collar that attaches around your cat’s neck with Velcro. It’s perfect for making your cat a groom, a butler, or just a distinguished gentleman. These collars are each $9.95 on the Felinerina website, and suited for small to medium sized cats.

3. Here Comes the Bride Haute Harness and Angel Haute Harness. Also on the Felinerina website, we come to the third best cat costume option: the harness. The harness may not be quite as comfortable as the collar, but it still allows the cat to move easier than if he/she was in a full outfit. The Here Comes the Bride Haute Harness goes perfect with the Black Tie Cat Collar if you have two cats. The straps are ruffled trim, a white bow is at the center of the back, along with a white wedding skirt that matches the straps. All is attached beautifully to the harness wrapped around your beautiful bride. Although the skirt may be a potential problem, as I imagine the cat might try to rip it off, but other than that it’s really quite lovely. The Angel Haute Harness has little pink wings on the back, close enough to the cat’s body that ripping them off shouldn’t be an issue. It also has a little pink skirt, and the set up of this little number seems to be more comfortable for the cat than the Bride Harness. Each is $14.95 on the Felinerina website.

4. Easy Clip On & Off Creepy Creatures Bandana. This Halloween featured bandana is made for small dogs, but would fit great on any cat. It’s black with pictures of ghosts, ghouls, and demons, and is perfect for any Halloween celebration. Though it’s not likely that this bandana can be pulled off, it connects with an easy clip, it may be long enough to make the cat uncomfortable. The good thing is that it’s only $4.90 on the Hands-N-Paws website, and also comes in a cool spider-web design.

5. Cat Neckties. Cat necktie collars seem like a cute idea, but I can’t imagine the cat not trying to pull on the dangling tie. However, they do come in a variety of colors and styles. You can get them for $7.99 at the Kitty City website, or get a tie with a shirt collar for $10.95 at Felinerina.

6. SuperCat Collar and Jester Collar. The SuperCat cape is super cool; though I don’t think it will stay on your kitty for long if he can help it. The yellow cape has a SuperCat emblem on it, and it straps around your cat with Velcro on the red collar. It costs $10.95 at Felinerina. The Jester Collar is definitely good for some laughs. The elasticized collar should fit easily right over the cat’s head. The costume is both black and orange with dangling bells that will jingle as he walks. However, I personally think the jingling bells would be too much temptation for cats to leave alone. If you want to give it a try on your cat you can purchase it for $3.99 at the Doctors Foster and Smith website.

7. Bat Cat and Witch Hat. Now we are down to the bottom of our costume list. These last two costumes are some good costumes, but they borderline on cat humiliation. Even if you don’t buy the Bat Cat Halloween costume, you should at least take a glance at the picture on the website. While the costume looks a bit uncomfortable for the cat, it appears to be somewhat easy to put on. It consists of a webbed bat collar that ties around the cat’s neck, and a bat headpiece. While I wouldn’t suggest any costumes where you tie things around your cat’s neck, this costume is too funny to pass up. You can get it for $13.99 at Kitty City website. The Kitty Witch Hat is another picture that cat lovers should at least glance at even if they don’t buy. This witch hat is supposed to tie around your cat’s head, and while I wouldn’t recommend anything that is a hat or ties, it is still a spooky hat for your Halloween kitty. You can buy for $9.95, or just look at, on the Wacky Planet website. That concludes my not-too-humiliating online Cat Halloween Costume List. Don’t be afraid to try and make your own cat costume. My only suggestion is that the less accessorized the better. The larger and more accessorized the costume is, the more your cat is going to resist. Keep it simple, and your cat will be less likely to hold a grudge.
